It's all in the timing....
Now in the old days, we would have gotten upset, called a wreaker to haul it to the junk yard (it has 280 thousand miles on it). And missed out workout.
The new days?
We kept smiling, he grabbed his gym bag and we went in and had a great workout. Later in the afternoon we got the Volvo over to our family mechanic for a diagnosis. As suspected it was the timing belt. My husband's wallet is about 200 dollars lighter...but the Volvo is back, in tip top shape complete with a new water pump to boot...and reassurance that it will probably go another 100 thousand miles.
I can't help think that I'm a lot like that old Volvo. Especially before I got my timing fixed. I had lots of miles, but I managed to keep going. Then one day I just stopped moving forward. Thankfully I learned about a sound plan for repairs. I invested a little time and money and today, just Like our trusty backup car..I have at least another 100 thousand miles or so in reserve!
Don't wait until all those minor problems drive you into the junkyard. Pick up a repair book (BFL book ) today and begin to invest the time and money needed to keep yourself on the road.
It really is all in the timing.

To me there are two kinds of cars that have a special appeal:
1.) The first is a brand-spanking new one fresh from the dealership, one that sparkles in the sun and has that "new car smell. "
2.) The second is an older classic car in tip-top shape, one that has been cared for with loving hands. It may not have that new car smell, but it still sparkles in the sun and performs just as well -- and there's something alluring about it, a certain magic, something that even the new car does not possess.
We all get a new car in the beginning. As we get older, it's up to us to make the magic happen.
